The Dragon Dream. This dream is a haunting relic of my childhood. It’s narrative played it’s self out to me in a linear fashion. It lasted for two weeks and would visit me each night without fail. The locations of the dream scenarios were my Blackball home and respective school. I was five. The Dragon was emerald green in colour with reptilian scales and possessed one giant, piercing, taunting, truly terrifying eye. The Dragon chased me night after night with the sole purpose of achieving eye contact with me. I knew then, as I do now, that if it succeeded in doing so something terrible would happen. My self-image possessed a white ball in the dream. This ball, when bounced on any surface, in any location, at home or at school, would trigger the presence of the Dragon and the continuance of the chase. The Dragon, to fulfill its malevolent plan for me, needed to look me in the eye whilst I was on the grass and one night it worked. I ran and ran across the sports field of my school and the grass opened its many gaping maws with the sole intention of swallowing me whole. I fell, I fell, I fell…I fell like Alice through the rabbit hole into an underground laboratory. I was encased in polystyrene, I was the Polystyrene Man and no matter how hard I tried, I could not escape until I revisited this metaphysical lair many years later…all of the objects of liminal fancy (eggs, bicycle wheels, ribbons) were pulled to many pieces and bereft of their form and function until finally, I was free.

This is the summary of a case of nightmare disorder I suffered from when I was 5 years old. In university I underwent hypnosis to fabricate and secure a happy ending to this scenario. This was part of a mock hypnosis therapy session I was involved in with a psychology student and if said student reads this, I want the footage!
